Over the weekend I took some time to remove some paint from a couple of things. The first is a fabulous pottery pitcher. It is unmarked. Being a stones throw from Ohio means I come across a good bit of this pottery. Recently someone in the shop mentioned that her mother had had a lot of Ohio pottery, including a number of McCoy Planters. She now has them and commented that the quality seemed sort of shoddy even on the McCoy pieces. This was all very inexpensive in its day. This pitcher’s imperfections natually don’t bother me one bit. My eyes embrace all the nooks and crannies. Stray paint on this piece just goes to show that the pitcher wasn’t deemed as so special by a previous owner. You wouldn’t believe how much stray paint I have removed from things over the years. This photo was taken after I had already removed about ten blobs like the ones you see. This was worth the effort. The design of this pitcher is really lovely. It has great lines.
The next piece is really just a sweet little Bluebird figurine, not of great value. It is marked Japan. But a previous owner must have decided that the berries would look better if they were red. They painted right over the glaze. Over time that always flakes off. Since it was half off, I removed the rest. This is not the first time that I have come across this either.
Those are two fun pieces in great colors. Yes, display them together. They compliment each other.

It isn’t always the most valuable stuff that is the sweetest. I’m glad you all love the little birds too.
LOL, I have a friend who painted on a print so the colors would match her living room. “Make it work people” is what comes to my mind…
